Google, Poised to Rule the World

By Douglas V. Gibbs

From feeding money into the Democrat Party to purchasing NASA facilities to frightening gains in robotics, Google has shown that in the Brave New World, the internet giant reigns supreme.

Moffett Field used to be the home of the sky cruisers, the mighty dirigibles.  Located at the southern edge of San Francisco Bay, the airport's strategic location served as an important part of national security of the era.  NASA took over control of the field in 1994, and now, as the home and launch pad for Google's private jets, Google is now poised to take over operations of the airfield.

In the realm of robotics, working with the U.S. Military, Google has created a two-legged robot, and it has learned to stand on one leg.

The Atlas robot stands 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 330 pounds.  The machine has 28 hydraulically actuated joints and stereo vision, and is one of the most advanced robots ever created.

The robot's software even enables it to drive a car.

'Inspired by the speed of cheetahs, the endurance of horses, the maneuverability of monkeys, and the versatility of humans, IHMC researchers are on a quest to develop legged robots that are fast, efficient, and graceful, with the mobility required to access many of the same places that humans can.'
