He "end-ran" Congress dozens of times on ObamaCare; he's "end-running" Congress on amnesty; he's "end-running" Congress on
The National Rifle Association is warning that the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty set to take effect on December 24th could lead to increased gun control if President Obama implements it via executive order.
"We are worried about an end-run around Congress," NRA spokeswoman Catherine Mortensen told the Blaze. "Barack Obama or a future anti-gun president could use [the treaty] and international norms compliance to rationalize enacting gun control politics through executive actions, especially in the import and export realms."
Not legally, of course. Treaties are all fine and good, but they do not become U.S. law unless and until they are ratified by a two-thirds vote of the U.S. Senate (Article II, Section 2, Clause 2). There is, by contrast, no clause in Article II that empowers the POTUS to use unratified treaties as justification and cover for their illegal imposition anyway in violation of Article I, Section 1.
But laws and constitutions are for ignorant insect-mortals, not "gods," remember?
Under the terms of the U.N. treaty, participating nations must set up export and import controls for combat vehicles, aircraft, and small arms. The treaty also requires those nations to "establish and maintain a national control system, including a national control list, in order to implement the provisions," the Washington Times reported.
The treaty was approved by the U.N. General Assembly in April 2013.
And in a sane world, that would have as much relevance to Us, The People as Old Spice commercials on French TV.
Mortensen charged that the treaty is an "attempt by other countries, including some despotic regimes, to try and infringe on our constitutional rights. This treaty is a very real threat."
No, Barack Obama is a "very real threat".
The United States delegation to the U.N. supports the treaty, but the Senate, which is soon to be controlled by Republicans, is "less than likely" to ratify it, the Times observes.
As was even the current Senate.
But the Obama administration is publicly voicing support for the treaty, and the NRA fears that could eventually result in implementation via executive order.
"Even now, with an existing appropriations rider prohibiting action to implement the treaty unless it is approved by Congress, administration officials are publicly professing support for international efforts to bring the treaty into effect," Mortensen said. "That's outrageous.
It's also inevitable. This is Cloward-Pivenization on an even more breath-taking scale, gentlebeings. Barack Obama is flooding the zone with tyrannical, in-your-face power-grabs so as to completely pre-empt the Republican 114th Congress by forcing them to react to him for the next two years and thus making it impossible for them to set any part of the public agenda. And that will set the PR stage for more reprises of his "do-nothing GOP Congress"/"If they won't act (i.e. "If they won't obey me"), I will!" meme.
Oh, yes, and he will shove every last plank of the Obamunist platform down our throats whether we like it or not, and especially if we don't like it.
Better lock & load, while you still can.
