Indonesia's "Two Finger" Virginity Tests

by JASmius

Degrading military protocol inflicted upon women.  And in the world's most populous Muslim country, too.  Fancy that:

Indonesia will continue ‘virginity tests’ on female recruits to its armed forces, despite calls for an end to the practice.

Human Rights Watch condemned the tests, which have been carried out for years as “discriminatory and invasive,” demanding that Indonesia drop the practice.

But Indonesian military spokesman Fuad Basya said the test was necessary to determine whether or not the girls were “naughty.”

“We need to examine the mentality of these applicants. If they are no longer virgins, if they are naughty, it means their mentality is not good.”

He reaffirmed that the test will continue, saying:

“We will continue to carry out the test because to be a military person, the most important thing is your mentality. Physical and intellectual requirements are secondary.”

The person administering the “two-fingered test” checks to see whether or not women are “habituated to sexual intercourse.” Although medical professional consensus rejects virginity tests as unscientific, since the hymen can be broken in a number ways, Fuad Basya, who is not a doctor, says that the test can tell whether sexual intercourse has occurred or not.

Does this mean that in order to have the desired "mentality," male recruits are given handjobs?  Or perhaps prostate examinations?  Is it okay for male recruits to be, or have recently been, "naughty"?  And unless one is joining the American military, doesn't that require female collaboration in the naughtiness?  Or is the idea to make the Indonesian military more intimidating by populating it with women that would all be top candidates to endorse Wolverine steel-toed boots?

But it's American conservatives who are waging a "war on women" by, among other things, seeking to reattach consequences to their "naughtiness".  And simply existing.

Exit question: Does this explain the Clinton "Global Initiative"?  Sounds like a full-fledged second career for Mr. Bill that would sure put Jimmy Carter's Habitat For Humanity to shame.
