He'll be right at home:
NBC and Williams have come to a tentative agreement that will keep Williams at the network after his six-month suspension ends in August, people with knowledge of the agreement said. It will likely be announced sometime Thursday.
Williams will not be returning to the NBC Nightly News anchor chair; his fill-in Lester Holt will become the program’s permanent anchor…
So what will Williams do? His portfolio will include a position on MSNBC, NBC’s struggling cable news channel. “He will be the face of MSNBC,” handling big breaking news stories, one of the people said on condition of anonymity.
Yes, I'm kicking myself for not having predicted this. In retrospect, it's so day-glo obvious. A failing cable "news" network that is a functioning leftwingnut insane asylum desperately flailing about for a lifeline, as CEO Phil (Peter?) Griffin has been, and finally settles upon a more "straight-news" format couldn't pick anybody else to be its new anchor than the man who assures us that he climbed Mt. Everest without equipment and stark naked after defeating Godzilla on Mars.
What does this tell us about MSNBC? Nothing we didn't already know. What does it tell us about NBC? That the Peacock network is to its cable monstrosity what Red China is to North Korea: The sane-by-comparison "parent" that vents its true leanings and proclivities through its avowedly wacko child.
Again, Lyin' Bryan will be right at home.
Exit question: Which is getting the bigger demotion, Williams returning to where he began his NBC career, or MSNBC for being 30-Rock's toxic waste dump?
