Illegal Immigration Mess Deepens

By Douglas V. Gibbs

On July 1, 2015 the citizens that bravely protected their city from the federal government forcing shipments of illegal aliens on the City of Murrieta will be celebrating the one year anniversary of their accomplishment.  Nearby, the opposition plans a similar gathering.

The Murrieta residents that participated in the protest nearly a year ago did not do it because they are racist, or because they hate any particular person.  This is America, and we understand why people want to come to this country.  But, the immigration process through our immigration laws is in place for a reason.  Constitutionally supported by Article I, Section 9, the immigration laws are there to properly screen incoming immigrants so that the receiving population may be protected from the potential of disease, criminals, and a terrorist element.  ISIS has a base on the other side of the Texas Border, and the enemy is taking advantage of our porous border.  This is, after all, not just an immigration issue, but it is also a national security issue.

When I was on al Jazeera America regarding this issue, the host asked me, "Are you anti-immigration?  Or anti-Hispanic?"

We are not anti-anyone.  It is about protecting our community.  And in my case, I have my own personal reasons.  First, what alerted me to what was going on was when my granddaughter contracted hand-foot-and-mouth disease.  The doctor made a comment about how he did not understand why that disease was suddenly spiking in our region.  After a short investigation, I put two and two together, and realized we were under assault.  Murrieta was the recipient of busloads of illegal aliens, largely ill with various diseases that includes tuberculosis, and those people were being shipped by the hundreds to a facility in Murrieta that few knew existed, and a facility not designed to handle these kinds of numbers.

Also, my wife is an immigrant.  She was born in Mexico, and came here legally as a child.  Her father went through the proper channels.  My wife naturalized in 2007, and she is as frustrated as I am on this issue.

To my surprise, an effort was already being put together, and I had the privilege of joining the effort early on.  The effort ultimately resulted in the rejection of busloads, and the now famous "turning around of the buses".

But, the problem has not gone away.  We realize, as the anniversary date approaches, that there is still much work that needs to be done to protect our communities, and nation, from this invasion.

Here's the headlines from this morning, alone:

Join us on July 1 at the Border Patrol Station on Madison Avenue for the one year anniversary of turning the buses around.  All we ask is that you don't park on Madison, or interfere with the traffic moving through the area.  Join us as Americans, not as a member of a group.  We are Americans, and all we ask is that immigrants are properly screened before allowed to enter this country, for our safety, and the safety of our children.
