JCS Nominee Joseph Dunford Calls Russia Top National Security Threat, Destroys His Own Nomination

by JASmius

Let that be a lesson to you, General Dunford; When nominated by an Ameriphobic traitor of a POTUS to be his JSC Chairman, never, and I mean never, tell the truth about anything, but always spout the lunatic party line:

Barack Obama's nominee to head the Joint Chiefs of Staff said Thursday that Russia poses the greatest threat to U.S. national security and it would be a reasonable military decision to supply lethal arms to Ukrainians fighting against rebels backed by Moscow. The White House quickly distanced the president from the remarks.

"Russia presents the greatest threat to our national security. ... If you look at their behavior, it's nothing short of alarming," Marine General Joseph Dunford said during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee....

At the White House, press secretary Josh Earnest distanced the president from Dunford's assessment. He praised him as someone who had spent substantial time thinking about threats to U.S. security but said Dunford's comments reflected his own views and not necessarily "the consensus analysis of the president's national security team."

I'm guessing either the White House didn't do sufficient, or any, vetting of their JCS Chairman nominee, or he told them something different than he said to the Senate Armed Services Committee.  Or perhaps he chose disobeying the Commander-in-Chief's orders over perjuring himself before Congress.  Either way, General Dunford is toast, and I'm not just talking about his nomination to the nation's top military post.

Which means that much of his other testimony amounted to "in for a penny, in for a pound":

On Iran, another major international issue, Senator Tom Cotton, R-AR, asked Dunford about the possible nuclear agreement being negotiated between the Islamic [Empire], the U.S. and world powers. If the U.S. and its partners reach a deal with Iran, he asked, would Tehran use part of the revenue it would receive through economic sanctions relief to further aid Shiite militias in Iraq, support militants in other countries and destabilize governments in the Middle East.

"I think it's reasonable to assume that," Dunford said.

Kneecapping O's cherished alliance with the mullahs.  General Dunford is soooooo dead.

Cotton also asked whether the U.S. has the military capability to destroy Iran's nuclear program.

"My understanding is that we do," Dunford replied.... [emphasis added]

Admitting that we probably don't have the means of destroying Iran's nuclear weapons and related infrastructure even if we had a POTUS with actual sanity, sense, courage, and wasn't a jihadi-symp.  General Dunford is soooooo dead.

Dunford said the U.S. and its coalition partners are making moderate [ i.e. "no"] progress in the fight against the Islamic State but that the strategy should be re-evaluated if efforts to improve governance and build reliable local ground forces stall. He said that if confirmed by the Senate he also wants to assess whether the U.S. should focus more on IS' "shifting geographic reach" and confront the militants where they are now and where they are most likely to go in the future....

He flaccidly maintained the Regime's "We're degrading ISIS" fiction but essentially conceded that we should actually be fighting them instead of just pretending to.  General Dunford is soooooo dead.

On Afghanistan, Dunford, who until last year had been serving as the top U.S. commander in the country, also said that he is willing to recommend changes in the size and pace of the troop withdrawal there if security conditions worsen.

He as much as declares that we should not be abandoning Afghanistan to ISIS and the Taliban.  General Dunford is so.....oh, you get the idea.  His JCS Chairmanship nomination will probably be withdrawn by the weekend.

Can McCain's Committee confirm General Dunford first and stick Obama with him anyway?  Or at least make firing him moderately more difficult?  Time's now a-wasting, Maverick.
