Clearly Bush III doesn't care where his campaign cash comes from, or what secret quid-pro-quos he has to make to get it:
Behind a garden modeled on Monet's, Jeb Bush addressed a lawn-full of chief executives and hedge- fund managers at an East Hampton, New York, estate Saturday morning. While the candidate is no stranger to courting wealthy donors, this time was different: about half the attendees were Democrats.
"This guy sells well," said Kenneth Lipper, the money manager and registered Democrat who hosted the event, after Bush left. Virtually the only one who left without writing a check, Lipper said, was a buck deer that wandered past the group assembled on the wooded grounds.... [emphasis added]
And registered Democrats are not going to write checks to conservative candidates.
"People with money like him," said Andrew Sabin, sixty-nine, a top local Republican fundraiser and a co-host of one of the Bush events. "I'm sure there's a lot of poor people that like him too. It so happens there's not a lot of poor people in the Hamptons."
Bush's schedule took him to the six-bedroom beachside mansion of Clifford Sobel, a former ambassador and entrepreneur, who served crab cakes and bruschetta. Then there were cocktails at the home of Emil Henry, a former Treasury official and now the CEO of an infrastructure fund.
The Bush campaign wouldn't comment on the events or say how much was raised, but Lipper said his event alone raised about $230,000. [emphasis added]
So many Tea Partiers let themselves become so drowned in their raging frustration with the fact that the GOP simply is not the counter-revolutionary party that America needs it to be that they do not distinguish between true RINOs and conservatives who are fighting the good fight without being a jerk about it. But in Jeb Bush we have the epitome of the former, and one of the chief beneficiaries of Donald Trump's faux rightwing populism.
And if you needed more evidence of Jeb's "bipartisan" inclinations, let me leave you with this:
In some ways, the Hamptons are Hillary Clinton territory. The Democrat candidate and her husband have often rented summer homes here, and it's popular with movie stars and entertainers who tilt liberal. Suffolk County favored Democrats in the last three presidential races.
And Jeb was right at home.in their midst.
Bush III is the enemy in this primary race, my Tea Party friends. You'd do well to not do anything that aids his hijacking of the Republican nomination - like flocking after Donald Trump.
UPDATE: Jeb Bush just endorsed amnesty (again). To Telemundo. In Spanish:
In an interview with Telemundo, Bush sat for roughly twenty-five minutes answering questions from anchor Jose Diaz-Balart, who also hosts a daytime program on MSNBC. The exchange began by reminding viewers that Bush’s wife, Columba, is from Mexico, and that his children are bilingual and bicultural.
Speaking in Spanish, Bush said: “We are very Hispanic, in that we speak Spanish in the house. Columba is a good Mexican, proud of her citizenship of this country, of course, but we eat Mexican food in the home. My children are Hispanic in many aspects. We don’t talk about it, but the Hispanic influence is an important part of my life.”
He also vowed to enact comprehensive immigration reform during his first term as president — a significant priority for a Spanish-speaking audience and a pledge that he noted Barack Obama also made, but failed to achieve. [emphasis added]
Now understand, Tea Party Trumpsters, that you're making this scenario more likely.
I know, you think it's counterintuitive. But life in general, and politics is particular, oftentimes is. That's why "Fight! Fight! Fight!" and "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" and "Hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast, hit 'em constantly, hit 'em from every angle" isn't always the best way to go. Remember Sun Tzu's first rule of war: Know your enemy - including who your enemies actually are.
