Consider this a followup to Mr. Constitution's post from yesterday. You can take your pick of metaphors - Doug setting me up for the spike, or waiting for the inevitable other shoe to drop:
The gun used in the seemingly random slaying of a woman on a San Francisco pier belonged to a federal agent, a law enforcement official briefed on the matter said Tuesday.
The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the case and spoke on condition of anonymity, said a police check of the weapon's serial number shows it belonged to a federal agent. The official declined to elaborate further. [emphasis added]
In essence, the Fast & Furious connection, at least symbolically. All the ingredients are assembled: hilariously recidivist criminal illegal alien, turned loose on into the general U.S. population by the Obama Regime, "sanctuary city" where it's easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy to find guns and just as effortless to locate defenseless "soft" civilian targets, and a murder weapon either taken from a slain FBI agent, supplied by an orthodox Obamunist (i.e. pro-amnesty) FBI agent, or actually from the original Fast & Furious weapons stash.
How emblematically outrageous is this case? Look how quickly Donald Trump jumped on it.
Hillary Clinton, curiously, went into triangulation mode on it:
[Democrat P]residential candidate Hillary Clinton told CNN that San Francisco was wrong to ignore the ICE detainer request and release Sanchez from custody after local prosecutors dropped marijuana possession charges in April.
"The city made a mistake, not to deport someone that the federal government strongly felt should be deported," [Mrs.] Clinton said. "So I have absolutely no support for a city that ignores the strong evidence that should be acted on."
Why? San Francisco was simply following national immigration policy, were they not? A (phony) case of "Physician, heal thyself".
I agree with Allahpundit that this is not the Empress coming out against "sanctuary cities" - ditto California's two battleax senators, DiFi and Babsy - since that would run directly counter to the Left's amnesty bandwagon. But as usual, she was so clumsy and inartful in articulating this assumed stance that it will create that confusion and further alienate her from the Nutroots. Unless, of course, this constituted the appearance of "tacking to the center," the latter of which doesn't believe Mrs. Clinton any farther than they can throw her than the Right does.
You'd think that eventually, sooner or later, Hillary would learn to just keep her mouth shut and run a Benjamin Harrison-style "front porch" campaign. Happily for all of us, that's a lesson she's incapable of learning.
UPDATE: If Francisco Sanchez caught you off guard, you'll be utterly stunned by this story:
According to data released by the U.S. Justice Department, 41.7% of the federal criminal cases that U.S. attorneys filed in U.S. district courts in fiscal 2014 were in the five U.S. attorneys' districts that sit along the U.S.-Mexico border.
In fact, the five districts that sit along the border — those for Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, Western Texas and Southern Texas — were the top five in the country for criminal cases filed in U.S. district courts. [emphasis added]
Hopenchange, baby!
Shall I break out the smelling salts?
