Fox News To Surrender To Trump?

by JASmius

Depends upon whom you ask.  Trump sure thinks so....

Roger Ailes just called. He is a great guy & assures me that “Trump” will be treated fairly on @FoxNews. His word is always good!

....while Fox isn't saying much of anything, other than that they're going to do another exclusive interview with him - though not conducted by Megyn Kelly:

It is “highly unlikely” Trump would appear at 9 p.m. with host Megyn Kelly, the source said, and that’s probably an understatement. Trump has repeatedly and personally insulted Kelly in recent days.

But talks are underway about a Trump interview with another prime time host, like Sean Hannity, the source said, adding that nothing had been confirmed as of Monday morning.

In the meantime, Fox has dramatically ratcheted down its coverage of Trump. It hasn’t covered Trump’s criticisms of Kelly and the two other debate moderators, Chris Wallace and Bret Baier

Kelly and her bosses at Fox News have said nothing publicly about the “blood” comments. Privately, though, they are disgusted by what Trump said and by the response from some of his supporters. There has been so much invective directed at her on the Internet that it’s created security concerns for Fox. [emphasis added]

When I said that Tea Party Trumpsters are growing as looney tunes as their leftwing Nutroots counterparts, I wasn't exaggerating.

I tend to think that Fox's silence is in keeping with my recommendation from last week: Ignore Trump where possible, and don't fan the flames from his bomb-throwing when it is not.  There was nothing wrong with Megyn Kelly's questions of Trump, nor Bret Baier's or Chris Wallace's.  It was Trump's whiny boorishness that generated the "controversy," and Fox is staying to the high road and letting The Donald stew in the foul juices his Twitter feed poured, and now offering him interview time, as befits a news network whose long-time slogan is "fair and balanced".

It would be preferable if the sit-down was conducted by, say, Sean Hannity as opposed to the perky folks at Fox & Friends, as the former wouldn't let Trump get away with the shallow evasiveness and dissembling that the latter doubtless will.  But I suppose one can't have everything.
