"Largest Ever" Sino-Russian Joint Naval Exercises

by JASmius

Remember when President Nixon opened up and restored U.S. diplomatic relations with Red China?  Remember why he did so?  Not out of any newfound love for Chairman Mao and his "little red book," but to deepen the world intra-communist schism between the ChiComms and the old Soviet Union.  Dividing, if not conquering, our enemies.  Strategic geopolitical chess.  And as it turned out, it worked masterfully in protecting, if not advancing, U.S. global national security interests.

Remember "smart power"?  Here's another manifestation of the results it invariably produces:

Russia and China are rapidly preparing for what will be the largest joint naval exercises in their history, according to the Washington Times.

That paper reports that the exercises, dubbed “Joint Sea 2015 II,” will feature more than twenty ships in the Pacific and including anti-submarine drills and amphibious landings.

The formidable display of power comes as both countries are challenging the United States on land and sea. Vladimir Putin’s expansionist Russia continues to fight a guerrilla conflict in Ukraine while pressuring other countries in Eastern Europe. The Chinese, meanwhile, are creating artificial islands in the Pacific to extend their territorial waters against Japan and other countries. The Chinese and Russian navies have held five such joint exercises over the past decade, the Times reports.

I was no fan of Nixon's detente policy, then or since.  But he did at least keep our enemies at each other's throats as much as at our own.  Now, thanks to the Obama Doctrine....

....our enemies are unified and allied against us, stronger than we are, and putting together their final preparations for our invasion and defeat at their hands.

Anti-submarine drills and amphibious landing drills, huh?  And we do have a lot of coastline, don't we?  Hmmm....
