NFL Week 1 Kickoff

by JASmius

Ya know, I was looking forward to this game for most of the offseason, dating back to the NFL's announcement of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's four-game suspension.  After Deflategate and Brady's being found to be armpit-deep in it and the years and years of Belichick-era cheating going back over a decade symbolized by "Spygate," I relished tuning in tonight to see the great Jimmy Garoppolo under center, the Steelers steamroll the Pats, and New England begin their title defense a big, fat 1-3.

Then Judge Berman had to go and spoil it all.

Oh, well.  With a significantly weakened defense with the departures of cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner (LOB imitation is the sincerest form of LOB flattery) as well as defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, the chances of the Pats even making it to Super Bowl L are minimal, though with Brady with the team all season (barring injury), they'll have enough to maintain the top spot in the AFC East.

And take care of Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers tonight.

Pittsburgh
New England* (-7)

And just think, folks: fix one brain fart of a play call and the game would be at the Clink, where it belongs.

Ah, well.  The last thing anybody outside Seattle should want to give the Seahawks is "unfinished business".
