Obama's War On Guns, Women....And His Fellow Democrats

by JASmius

At least women that don't agree with his war on the Second Amendment:

On May 21st, 2006, Kimberly Corban was a twenty-year-old student completing her sophomore year at the University of Northern Colorado. She had just finished finals — summer was on its way. She had her whole life ahead of her.

Then, the unthinkable happened. Around five in the morning, a man broke into her apartment in Greeley, Colorado, and, for almost two hours, sexually assaulted her.

“I thought, ‘I’m going to die,'” Corban, now thirty, told the Washington Post in a phone interview. “There’s no going back from that.”

Corban’s story did not exactly have a happy ending — or, at least, the ending is ever-evolving. Though her assailant is now serving twenty four years to life in prison, she struggled with depression, PTSD and stress-related seizures. And, speaking about her experience, she came to realize how important it was for women to have access to guns to protect themselves.

Then, Thursday night on national television, she got to confront the man [who wants] to take her guns away: [Barack Hussein] Obama.

“As a survivor of rape, and now a mother to two small children — you know, it seems like being able to purchase a firearm of my choosing, and being able to carry that wherever my — me and my family are — it seems like my basic responsibility as a parent at this point,” she told Obama during Guns In America, CNN’s town hall, after [Obama] announced [illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional, and preemptively futile] executive orders on gun control Tuesday.

“I have been unspeakably victimized once already, and I refuse to let that happen again to myself or my kids. So why can’t your administration see that these restrictions that you’re putting to make it harder for me to own a gun, or harder for me to take that where I need to be is actually just making my kids and I less safe?”

Mrs. Corban has the one trait above all others that gives her moral authority in twenty-first century public relations terms: She's a victim.  She's been sexually assaulted in the past.  Ergo, feminists have to be on her side, and other leftwingnuts can't say a negative word about her, right?

Don't be silly.  She's defending the Second Amendment, AND she's blaspheming Godbama.  So The One let her have it between her baby blues:

He pointed out that, though he didn’t think Corban’s guns necessarily made her safer, he’s not trying to take them away.

“I just want to repeat that there’s nothing that we’ve proposed that would make it harder for you to purchase a firearm.”

"....but we're working on that."

And: “You have to be pretty well trained in order to fire a weapon against somebody who is assaulting you and catches you by surprise.” And: “There’s always the possibility that that firearm in a home leads to a tragic accident.” And: “All I’m focused on is making sure that a terrible crime like yours that was committed is not made easier because somebody can go on the Internet and just buy whatever weapon they want without us finding out whether they’re a criminal or not.”

"Hold on one second, sweetie, what does a little girl like you know about guns?  You're lucky to have me as your president."

Corban wasn’t impressed.

“I would say it was more of a non-response,” she told the Post. “He kind of dodged the question.” …

He didn't dodge it; he ignored it and stuck to his party-line propaganda points.

Saying Obama was working without a script or a teleprompter, Corban criticized [hi]s insistence on talking about how guns endanger children every time he “got jammed” at the town hall.

Which was evidently often.

Doesn’t he understand that she has guns because she wants to keep her children safe in her family’s home?

“That’s where I understand [how] this violence happens,” she said, mentioning that her daughter will be a year old soon. “It’s not just on the news. It’s not just in far-off places. My nightmares are real. They are my memories. I don’t want that for my own kid.”

You know that, Mrs. Corban, and we know that.  But to King Hussein you are just an ignorant, drooling, mouth-breathing, violence-obsessed gun nut whose weapons he can't confiscate fast enough.

Then there was Taya Kyle - the widow of the late Chris "American Sniper" Kyle - who tried the logic and facts angle, and whom I am amazed managed to sneak past White House security for this otherwise stacked gun control propaganda soiree:

The widow of American Sniper Chris Kyle confronted Barack Obama Thursday night, challenging [him] on the effectiveness of gun control legislation and asking why he doesn’t more often note that violent crime has decreased during his presidency.

“I don’t know that any of them would have been stopped by a background check,” Taya Kyle told Obama of those who have committed mass shootings.

“So I think part it we have to recognize is we cannot [eliminate] murder,” she said. “Because the people who are murdering are breaking the law, but they also don’t have the moral code that we have. So they can do the same amount of damage with a pipe bomb. The problem is that they want to murder.”

Kyle later noted that “we are at the lowest murder rate in our country. All time of low of murders. All time high for gun ownership.” [emphasis added]

Almost as if there was some mysterious sort of correlation between the two.

I suppose you have to give O some credit for not mentally seizing up and falling into his angry-pouty face on the spot....

.....but he did miss an el primo opportunity to cut the the chase and logical conclusion of his gun control push:

“Number two, what you said about murder rates and violent crime generally is something we don’t celebrate enough,” he agreed. “The fact of the matter is that violent crime has been steadily declining across America for a pretty long time. And you wouldn’t always know it from watching television.” [emphasis added]

Including his ubiquitous, lying, droning, gun-grabbing monopolization of it.

“Now, I challenge the notion that the reason for that is that there is more gun ownership. Because if you look at the where the areas are with the highest gun ownership, those are the places that the crime hasn’t dropped down that much,” Obama said.

Nonsensical gibberish, and the diametric opposite of the truth.  It is precisely in the cities with the most suffocating gun control laws that gun violence is raging out of control (like, as the NRA video below points out, his adopted hometown of Chicago).  "Blue" States are magnets for gun violence, "red" States are not.

O would have been better off doubling down on Mrs. Kyle's comments and countering with a question of why today's historically low murder rates should be "settled for"?  If murder and violent crime rates are already headed in the right direction, why can't we reduce them further by confiscating all guns and making such crimes all but impossible?  Why tolerate ANY murder or ANY gun violence AT ALL?  Never mind that that's flatly impossible and total, Australia-style confiscation would lead to a thousand Ruby Ridges and piecemeal civil war across the country and would be an unmitigated calamity.  No aspect of the Left's gun control fetish exists outside the realm of fevered, demented fantasy anyway, so why not shoot for the moon?  Which I imagine he would have if he'd had TOTUS with him.

While The One is sexistly condescending to the female hoi-palloi, he thinks he's playing hardball with his fellow Dems about this topic:

Even as I continue to take every action possible as president, I will also take every action I can as a citizen. I will not campaign for, vote for or support any candidate, even in my own party, who does not support common-sense gun reform.

That will prompt two reactions: shrugging indifference from Democrats in safe districts and States who (1) already are on board with gun confiscation and (2) don't need limping billed ornithoids to campaign for them, and weeping shouts of joy from Democrats in swing districts and States for whom Obama campaigning would be the electoral equivalent of coming down with genital herpes.  And it cannot get gun control legislation through a Republican Congress regardless, and didn't even see the light of day in the Donk SuperCongress several years ago.  And for the same reason: Gun control is about the only issue on which the Left has never been able to bamboozle and swindle the American people, and still can't.

Which makes this sentence rolling-in-the-floor-laughing-my-ass-off hilarious:

And if the 90% of Americans who do support common-sense gun reforms join me, we will elect the leadership we deserve.

The actual numbers are a "smidgeon' different:

A majority of Americans oppose Barack Obama's use of executive powers [he does not legally or constitutionally possess] to enact new gun control initiatives — and they don't believe the controversial move will reduce the number of mass killings that have rocked the nation in recent months, a new Rasmussen Reports poll has found.

According to the poll of a thousand likely U.S. voters, 58% say the government should only do what the president and Congress agree on in gun control matters.

Only 34% of those surveyed believe the commander-in-chief should take action alone if Congress does not approve the initiatives he has proposed.

Rasmussen also found only 21%t believe Obama's executive order, which [illegally] extends federal government oversight of gun sales, will reduce the number of mass shootings. Another 59% disagree, and 20% said they are not sure.

Well, you know what Barbie says: "Math is hard".  That'll never stop Barack Obama from going off half-cocked, with wet powder and no ammunition, and shooting off his mouth, though.
