The narrative seems to be that white, heterosexual men are racist, sexist, and bigoted no matter what, and all others are not capable of being those things. This ridiculous narrative by the liberal left Democrats has been confirmed a number of times, and became glaringly clear recently when a university lecturers’ union banned straight, white men from attending their equality conferences in a bid to create “safe spaces.”
University and College Union equality conferences are held exclusively for women, LGBT, ethnic minorities or disabled people, and members must declare their “protected characteristic” when applying to attend.
In the book "Animal Farm" by George Orwell, after the pigs gained control of the farm and began to exclude certain members of the animal population from certain things, Napoleon the pig explained that "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others."
The reality of the world we live in reveals that there are differences in opportunity and results. It is a reality, not because of sexism or racism, but because of drive, circumstances, and perhaps a few unfair things, that men still tend to have the ability to make more an hour than women, most leadership positions in business are held by men, and "minorities" are less likely to hold positions of political loftiness or business leadership. Many factors are involved in this. One cannot say the "inequality" exists because of one or two factors that just so happen to fit a liberal left narrative. Influences may include education, personal desire, or simply a lack of folks of any particular group pursuing such positions. Is our system perfect? Of course not. No system is.
However, blatant racism and sexism in the opposite direction is not the way to fix what some folks perceive to be misrepresentation in society by protected groups because of (insert angry liberal left reason here). Excluding straight, white men from taking part in these conferences completely undermines the liberal left point, doesn't it?
Using the logic of the leftists, if straight white men are the problem, how can the problem be resolved when those folks are excluded from the proceedings designed to tackle the problem? Are all straight white men not willing to fight for "equality" because they are straight, white and of the male sex? That is kind of a racist, sexist bigoted attitude, isn't it?
Reminds me of when I was in the chat room of an online radio program and the topic was racism. A participant in the room appeared on the list of users sporting the moniker "Kill Whitey." I asked, "Isn't that racist?" and the response was "No, only white people can be racist."
According to the website Heat Street, Northumbria University lecturer Emma-Jane Phillips, who sits on the UCU equality committee, told the Times Higher Education magazine: “It is ridiculous that people who regard equality as their life can’t attend our equality conference. Equality reps are passionate about equality regardless of their own situation. To infer that someone does not understand someone’s situation just because you don’t tick a box is insulting.”
The behavior that includes excluding straight white men does not solve anything, but actually creates, reinforces, and strengthens any divide that may exist.
