The first tsunami wave from the latest quake measured about 2 feet and rolled into Onahama port in Iwaki City in Fukushima.
Tsunami advisories were issued for a wide area of Japan's Pacific coast.
The U.S. Geological Survey, which put the quake at magnitude 6.9, described it as having moved along a lateral slip. According to the USGS, quakes along faults that move laterally don't create the vertical movement associated with large tsunamis.
