Steven Mnuchin makes Democrats nervous, libertarians nervous, and some Republicans nervous. He was, after all, a Goldman Sachs banker. . . and bankers are not thought highly of by a number of folks. Nonetheless, he's no politician, and that seems to be Trump's modus operandi, so we'll go with it.
The vote went fairly well: 53-47 with Senator Joe Manchin a Democrat out of West Virginia joining the Republicans in approving Mnuchin. The vote did follow a long pause created by Democrats talking all night, boycotting the committee vote, and delaying the vote as long as possible with a number of other tactics.
The expectation is that Mnuchin will be as enthusiastic as Trump about cutting taxes, loosening financial regulatory nonsense, and revamping trade agreements.
