I am so used to reporting on wildfires in California, it is sometimes surprising to realize they occur elsewhere, as well. The one raging right now is in the State of Georgia, and more specifically, the Okefenokee Swamp (National Wildlife Refuge). The flames began raging over the weekend. Residents in Georgia have been asked to evacuate their homes, and there are fears the fire will spread into Florida as the number of acres has reached beyond 140,000. The fire is currently only 12% contained.
According to reports from firefighters, the massive blaze they may not be under control for months, and fully contained until November.
