Once upon a time in a place called America there was liberty, and common sense. The land was a virtuous place, with a godly people, who understood that guns are tools as good or bad as the person wielding it, the most dangerous place to live should not be a mother's womb, kneeling was reserved for those moments when one is in prayer, freedom of speech was specifically understood to include religious and political speech, socialist countries were recognized as being the antithesis of liberty and therefore our ideological opposition, we enjoyed a peaceful change of power after each election, people did not look to government to solve their problems, the education system taught people how to think (not what to think), the voice of the minority (rural areas) was protected and considered as important as the voices coming from the big cities, protests were carried out in a peaceable manner, only citizens enjoyed the privileges of citizenship, the people sought unity of all Americans as Americans, people worshiped God rather than political ideologies and false narratives, it was common knowledge that those who forget history are doomed to repeat it, the role of the government was determined by the original intent of the United States Constitution, among the most important roles of the citizen was to be informed and advocates in keeping the republic, we were willing to name our enemies and defeat them as necessary, courage and what is morally right went hand in hand, patriotism was not considered to be a hate-crime, hard work and personal responsibility was taught to the next generation, smart economics included the concept of spending less than what comes in as revenue, the American Dream included the desire to persevere so as to get beyond the tough moments in life, someone burning the Stars and Stripes was considered an outrage, standing with one's hand on their heart for the Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner was considered to be an important privilege of living in the Land of Liberty, broken laws were the fault of the lawbreaker who should be held accountable for their actions (not the fault of an alleged flawed society), the States and We the People had more authority than the federal government, and being in the presence of someone who was willing to put their lives on the line on the battlefield brought tears to our eyes and appreciation and gratitude to our hearts.
