I don't prefer people taking liberties of vocal gymnastics when they sing the National Anthem. When they do, like what Fergie did at the NBA All-Star Game, it really means the performance is more about them, than the Star Spangled Banner. Yes, I get it, the bar to reach has been set pretty high, nobody will ever forget Whitney Houston's version, but trying to get so creative that you ruin the song is not the way to be memorable . . . it's a way to be received with disappointment from those who observe such antics. At least she remembered all of the words, and didn't scream it . . . like Rosanne Barr.
Fergie put out a message that she tried her best, and loves the country, and she was only trying to be jazzy and sultry in her rendition. Really? She thought a sexy rendition of the National Anthem would be acceptable to patriots who simply want the song to be sung the way it was intended?
Well, at least the NBA All-Stars weren't kneeling.
For those of you who truly enjoyed Fergie's love-making to the microphone, I hope you had a cigarette to smoke, afterwards. Nothing's worse than a post-sexy nic-fit not being properly satisfied.
