Travis Allen Urges John Cox to Come Clean
New Evidence Shows John Cox Operates Government Financed Substandard Apartments

Sacramento, CA - Today Assemblyman Travis Allen, the leading Republican candidate for Governor, urged John Cox to come clean about his government financed substandard apartments.
Recently discovered government HUD property inspection ratings for one of the Section 8 properties owned and managed by gubernatorial candidate John Cox support tenant complaints going back several years of substandard living conditions at Cox’s properties. These complaints prompted rival candidate Assemblyman Travis Allen, now the leading Republican candidate for Governor, to charge Cox with being a “government financed slumlord.”
“John Cox preys upon both the poorest among us and the taxpayers,” declared Allen. “Is it right that John’s tenants should have to live with mold, rodents and crime? Is it fair that the working poor and middle class are taxed so that wealthy property owners like John Cox can be further enriched through government redistribution-of-the-wealth programs?”
The last three government inspection ratings for Cox’s Section 8 property Twyckenham Apartments of Lafayette, IN, included the “c” designation, the worst for Health & Safety deficiencies, explained as “at least one life threatening health and safety issue.” Add to this the separate issue of inoperable smoke detectors noted by the “*” designation on the last two reports and it’s easy to understand why there are so many tenant complaints. In fact, in the last two inspections John’s property received the 3rd lowest score in the entire city. Worse, the score of 69c* was achieved after Cox ordered work done in advance preparation of the inspection.
“Cox isn’t interested in helping low-income Americans. If he was, he could simply lower the rents on his apartments without being subsidized by the taxpayers,” stated Allen. “No, this isn’t about helping the poor. This is about another rich Crony Capitalist taking taxpayer dollars to support his own lavish lifestyle. John Cox should be ashamed and he owes both his tenants and the taxpayers an apology.”
