When I got home tonight from teaching my Constitution Class in Corona, I flipped on the television, and Conan O'Brien was on. Not a big fan, but it was either Conan, the end of Rush Hour 3, Johnny Depp's failure The Lone Ranger, the end of 12 Rounds, or The Simpsons.
Conan won by a landslide.
In his monologue he made one small quip about Trump, but he primarily focused on Comic-Con, which is going on in San Diego, and he is broadcasting from that location.
He announced that D.C. Comics and Warner Bros. were working together to put out a Batgirl movie, and that he had the audition tapes.
The joke ran through with a number of known stars having fun with various jokes, and Batgirl headgear moments. When Wanda Sykes came on the screen, she ranted something about global warming and Trump putting "babies in cages."
What?
I thought it was children in cages. Now it's babies?
The average, uninformed voter took that as fact, and is now angry with Trump because he's putting babies in cages.
Except, the practice being criticized was put into law during the Clinton presidency, and the image in question was taken during the Obama administration, not during Trump's watch.
In short, Wanda Sykes is guilty of spreading lies and fake news . . . but for such an ideologue, are we surprised she changed children to babies in an attempt to worsen what people think of Trump?
