Kari Lake's Illegal Alien Invasion Defense Strategy

By Douglas V. Gibbs
Author, Speaker, Instructor, Radio Host

Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake says the illegal immigration problem in her State is an invasion, and she plans to invoke Article I, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution to wage war against the invasion if elected. Is the illegal immigration issue an invasion? Does a State have the constitutional authority to take care of such an issue itself as Kari Lake claims? Mr. Constitution Douglas V. Gibbs explains.

Arizona has an illegal immigration problem (not a "crisis," but a problem), like every other border State.

It is ludicrous to call it an "invasion", nor is the Grand Canyon State, or any of its neighbors, in "such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay".

What is Lake (since she's looking like the next governor) going to do? Order the Arizona National Guard to start mowing down illegals? Or carpet-bombing them? That IS what "waging war" looks like.

If what she actually means is using the NG in border enforcement activities concurrent with the Border Patrol (which has to be the case, unless she really is as loony as her cartoonishly overheated rhetoric makes her sound), she really should just straightforwardly say so and knock off the Putin penis envy.

Given how pathetic Katie Hobbs is as a candidate, I really don't think it would hurt Lake's momentum at this point.
