First, when asked to discuss the prospect of arms sales to Taiwan, fearful I am sure to give an answer that might upset the Chinese, Obama said the U.S. favored "dialogue and negotiations."
Hmmm, is another beer summit on the horizon?
His response left the impression that America is going to leave Taiwan high and dry, placing Taiwan in a precarious position.
Then, Obama talked down about the United States, and offended the Chinese all at the same time.
Obama: "It's very important for the United States not to assume that what is good for us is automatically good for somebody else. We have to have some modesty about our attitudes towards other countries. We think it's important nevertheless to be true to our ideals and our values. And we... When we do so, though, we will always do so with the humility and understanding that we are not perfect and that we still have much progress to make. Uh, if you talk to women in America, they will tell you that there are still men who have a lot of old-fashioned ideas about the role of women in society."
There are still men that want to keep their women barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen? Is that what he is trying to say? Sure, some folks like myself believe the children are better off with mama holding the fort at home, but she's free to do what she wants. My wife, for example, has five collegiate degrees, worked many jobs, and then chose to be a stay at home mom because (gasp) she believed it to be best for the children.
She plans to re-enter the workforce in the near future.
Also, think about this: He's also pushing human rights on a nation that has no cares about human rights. Now, I am not arguing that we shouldn't make them aware of their human rights violations in the past, but Obama is literally talking down to the Chinese. Think about it. He is demonizing America for not giving women the rights they deserve (which is not true, women are contributing to the full force when they so desire) to a country that aborts their female babies in preference of males.
Of course, deep down, Obama has affection for the Chinese, because their communist system is an advanced version of what Obama is trying to initiate in the United States at this very moment.
