On Sunday the Solomon Islands were struck by a 6.5 earthquake. A 7.2 quake followed on Monday. Today the small island nation northeast of Australia was struck by a 6.9. A large number of smaller quakes have also struck the region. This flurry of quakes follows a number of quakes that hit the area last September when Indonesia and Samoa experienced major earthquakes, and a tsunami caused by an 8.0 earthquake near Samoa.
After the 6.9 quake hit the western part of Solomon Islands, the quake was followed by a number of smaller quakes with a magnitude of five, including one at 6.0. Reports that the earthquake caused a small tsunami emerged, but no damage has been reported from the quake, or the tsunami.
Monday's larger earthquake destroyed many homes, and other properties.
