I remember as a kid getting up to watch American Bandstand. That was my first introduction to the music scene, since at that young age in the seventies I wasn't listening to the radio, yet. My parents also watched American Bandstand, long before I did. Dick Clark was a national treasure to both of our generations.
On Wednesday, April 18, 2012, Dick Clark passed away at the age of 82. He suffered a heart attack while at the hospital in Santa Monica. He had a mild stroke in 2004, soon after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. After the stroke Dick Clark cut back, including letting go of the hosting duties of the New Year's Rockin' Eve specials, co-hosting with Ryan Seacrest for a time.
A tribute to Buddy Holly sang, "Bye, bye, Miss American Pie, drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry, bye, bye, Miss American Pie - calling Buddy's death the day the music died - - - The music never died because Dick Clark never let it. . .
Dick Clark was an American Icon, and though his spirit has passed on to be with the Lord, his impact on American life will live on in the memories, and the video, of his life as the man that brought us music on the television.
