Venezuela Socialist Utopia

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Greece, the City of Detroit, the State of California, the State of New York, and the Country of Venezuela have become prime examples of the damage that liberal left socialist policies cause.  The failed economies, high prices, high unemployment rates, high taxes, and shortages of goods are proof that leftism fails whenever, and wherever, these policies are tried.

In 2008, South Ossetia was promised utopia, if they joined Russia, and turned their back on the country of Georgia.  South Ossetia joined Russia, lured by promises of a growing economy.  Instead, South Ossetia became yet another example of dependency upon government, dependent entirely upon Russia for budgetary funds.  The nation suffers from high unemployment and high prices.  Meanwhile, as with all of the other socialist leftist examples listed above, the political system is controlled by those loyal to the socialists in charge, creating two classes; the wealthy politicians and supporters of the ruling elite, and the poor citizens living in an environment of poverty, and a collapsing infrastructure.

In Venezuela, protests continue to rise up, not only against the mismanagement of Hugo Chavez's socialist utopia, but the damaging effects of big government, and the shortages of basic needs as a result of the presence of a socialist ruling elite.  The Venezuelan economy is in a free fall, where food and basic necessity shortages such as toilet paper, are gripping the nation.  There are continuous power outages, skyrocketing inflation rates, and a dangerous increase of crime, making Venezuela the nation with the highest homicide rate in South America.

All of this failure, despite the fact that Venezuela reigns as the fifth largest oil producer in the world.  Socialism fails.  Leftism fails.  Liberalism fails.  The money has run out, and there is no free market to cushion the fall, or turn around the economy.  Total economic collapse seems imminent.

Venezuela has used all of the classic leftist strategies, subsidizing food and housing while inflicting price controls over almost all other commodities.  Government control, heavy regulation, and the destruction of any remnant of capitalism in the country has led to a resource rich country collapsing under the narcissistic, anti-capitalist, hypocritical socialism that destroys everything it touches.  The loss of private industry has led to collapse.  The implementation of big government, in a style similar to what Obama, and the democrats, are trying to impose on America, has killed Hugo Chavez's socialist utopia.

Socialism is unsustainable.  It collapses under the weight of its own existence.

This is why leftists are never truthful, and use deception to sell their big promises that are impossible to deliver.  They tell you things like, "You can keep your doctor if you like him," or make grand predictions in the face of massive stimulus programs, and then use the excuse that they didn't spend enough when the programs fail.

In Venezuela, the situation has gotten so bad that even a roll of toilet paper has become valuable beyond imagination.
