The Ebola outbreak has gotten so bad in Western Africa that now a country, Sierra Leone, is completely shutting down to slow the disease. It is the ultimate in martial law. Citizens are confined to their homes, and are required to follow government instructions of cleanliness. Soap is being handed out by volunteers. Necessary? Or a step too far? And in the United States, how would such an action go down? How would the public respond? Would the government use such an opportunity to finally crack down against all opposition to the political policies of the government? I get it, Sierra Leone is desperate to slow down the spread of Ebola, but what kind of precedent is their actions creating on the global stage?
