Muslim "Tolerance" In Europe

by JASmius

Picture the reaction if a mosque had been vandalized like this:

A sixty-year-old crucifix in a small Austrian town has met an inglorious end after being cut down by a recent addition to the neighborhood who declared it an “eyesore” and attacked it with an angle-grinder.

The cross, which was erected in the Grossenzersdorf, a small suburb of Vienna, after the Second World War, and has been a popular way point for church processions and pilgrimages since ,stood on the grass verge outside one of the properties on Grossenzersdorf’s Augasse. Shortly after the new resident, a man described by local media as ‘Egyptian’ moved in, he started complaining to neighbors and even his local government about the crucifix.

Keen to appease the new arrival, local mayor Hubert Tomsic even discussed moving the cross with him:  “I had a conversation with the man about repositioning the cross at a different location in the alley – at his expense”.

The offer was clearly not enough, however. TheLocal.at reports the man was heard saying to his neighbours soon after moving in: “I don’t want that. It has to go!”. The man soon began renovations at his new property and as part of that acquired an angle-grinder that he used to cut the historic cross down.

Mayor Tomsic was actually surprised by "the Egyptian's" actions, calling them "radical, offensive, and inflammatory".  But he was all ready to take down the crucifix himself at "the Egyptian's" demand.  It's like what outraged him wasn't what "the Egyptian" did but the fact that the Muslim took matters into his own hands before the Mayor could appease him.

Still, the outcome was the same: the removal of a Christian symbol in a Christian country.  And had the situation been reversed, and a Christian hacked down, say, a star-and-crescent?  We'd be seeing a wave of media stories about a burgeoning new wave of "neo-Nazism" sweeping across its birthplace of origin eighty years ago.

I'd use the analogy of an Austrian Christian doing the above in Egypt, but we know the likelihood of a Christian even being allowed to emigrate to a Muslim country, now don't we?

And still, "the Egyptian" comes across as moderate in his intolerance compared to ten of his Swedish counterparts:

Friday night a gang of about ten people attacked the local police station in Farsta in southern Stockholm area.

The gang, which consisted of “younger men”, poured flammable liquid over 4-5 police cars parked outside the station. They also blocked the door leading from the station to the parking lot, to prevent the cops from coming out and extinguish the fire.
A plainclothes police officer saw what was happening and managed to grab one of the perpetrators. This apparently got the rest of the gang to leave. The arrested person is in his 20s. …

Police categorize the incident as attempted sabotage alternatively attempted vandalism. Because the crime was directed against the law enforcement and is one of a series of attacks in recent years against the Swedish judicial system, the crime also meets the criteria to be characterized as a terrorism.

And yet, and yet....these "younger men" torched the police cars rather than firebombing the police station and murdering all the cops.  Maybe my headline should have been, "Muslim Moderation In Europe".

Then I remember this, and that I was right the first time.
