I am a football fan, but usually, JASmius is the one posting on the NFL. This is primarily a political website, so I try to stick to political, and constitutional, commentary. However, this weekend's games have caught my attention, and I thought I might say a few things about this weekend's playoff games - of which the winners will go on to the Conference Championship Games.
During my radio program on Saturday, the Baltimore Ravens will be taking on the New England Patriots. . . in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The great Tom Brady is in the post-season once again, but it's been a few years since they've been to the Super finale at the end of it all. And, to be honest, while I am eating my super bowl of salsa during the big game, I don't think either one of these teams will be on the tube. . . but that's just me. Tom Brady is great, but not as great as he was, and for some reason, the Ravens have seemed to always been a thorn in Brady's side, winning two out of their last three meetings. The final result will be determined by hunger, and though I believe Brady is the better quarterback, and the Patriots are the better team, Flacco still has something to prove. He is tired of being a quarterback with a Super Bowl ring that is still considered a second tier quarterback. He wants the respect, he wants the glory, and he wants to be given his due. Baltimore will beat the Patriots by less than a touchdown.
Saturday Night the Carolina Panthers are going out to one of the loudest (Seattle will argue they are THE loudest) stadiums in the NFL. The Champs from the last big game had a rough start this season, and then became the team we know them to be. Cam Newton is quick, and the Panthers did well enough to squeak in, and continue forward, but in the end, Russell Wilson will make the big plays, and in all honesty, his instincts are unmatched. The Seattle Seahawks are going to beat the Carolina Panthers into the turf, and will skate to an easy victory by at least two touchdowns.
Sunday's early game between the Cowboys and the Packers is going to be a thriller. . . thrilling for Green Bay fans, anyways. I think the boys from Dallas will give it a good heave-ho, but Aaron Rodgers, and the talent around him, even with Rodgers not feeling 100%, will reign supreme, and dominate the Cowboys. However, Romo will not look like his usual choke-under-pressure self. Romo has matured over these years, and I believe he will do everything he can to win this game. . . and though after it is all over he will carry the blame as a leader should, the blame will be better placed on a collapsing defense that just could not contain Aaron Rodgers' air attack. Green Bay by at least a touchdown. . . probably more.
Sunday Night's game is the clash of the titans. The Indianapolis Colts' new quarterback is taking on the Colts' old quarterback. Luck is absolutely incredible. He is "The Man," and he is breaking the records set by his predecessor, Peyton Manning. The elder Manning in Denver is older, wiser, and performing well above what everyone expected after a couple seasons of post-neck surgery football, and hd has somehow gotten better. Luck and Manning will battle it out like an old Rocky movie, but in the end, Peyton Manning is Peyton Manning, and Luck will only lose the game because the Denver defense will harass him to the point that he will begin making decisions he would not normally make, and begin turning the ball over. Denver had the second best rushing defense in the NFL in 2014, and if they play their game, Peyton Manning and the Broncos will finish on top. The score will be decided by less than a touchdown, with the Broncos winning on the final drive of the game, unless Luck starts turning the ball over like he had a tendency to do during the regular season - then it could be downright ugly, and Denver's win may very well become a - for lack of a better word - slaughter.
