VA Commissar Robert McDonald Lies To Homeless Veteran About Military Service

by JASmius

<sigh>

To modify a Loki quote from The Avengers, "How desperate are you that you elect such lost creatures to lead you?":

Robert McDonald, the secretary of veterans affairs, wrongly claimed in a videotaped comment earlier this year that he served in the Army's elite special forces, when his military service of five years was in fact spent almost entirely with the 82nd Airborne Division during the late 1970s.

U.S. special operations forces (SOF) are composed of exhaustively trained and highly capable troops from each military service, including the Army Rangers, Delta Force, Navy SEALs and Army Special Forces (also known as the Green Berets) -- but not the 82nd Airborne. They are certified to undertake the most dangerous and delicate missions, including, famously, the killing of Osama bin Laden in May 2011. Special operators are a close-knit community deeply hostile to outsiders who try to claim the coveted mantle of special operations.

McDonald, a retired corporate executive who took over the VA last June as the agency was sinking in scandal [and remains there to this day], made the claim in late January as he was touring a rundown Los Angeles neighborhood during a nationwide count of homeless veterans. He was accompanied by a CBS-TV news crew, which recorded an exchange between McDonald and a homeless man who told McDonald he had served in special forces.

“Special forces? What years? I was in special forces!” McDonald told the homeless man. That exchange was broadcast in a January 30th CBS News story about the VA’s efforts to find and house homeless veterans.

I dunno, folks.  If you throw out honesty and integrity and journalistic ethics, you can kind of see why Brian Williams wove his risible tall tales - he's just a reporter, he's never had any heroic exploits or daring-do deeds.  Plus, he had the left-wing Narrative to advance.  So you can understand it without remotely condoning it.

But McDonald?  Sorry, I don't get it.  He knew he was on camera, right?  It's not like this couldn't come out at some point.  And, more to the point, why on Earth is having served in the 82nd frickin' Airborne Division not sufficient penis-stroking?  It's not like that homeless special forces vet would have thought the VA Commissar to be a pussy or anything.  I know I wouldn't have.

It's like a virus with these animals.  Enter the Obame Regime, or the Democrat Congressional caucii, or the Obamedia, get exposed to it, and they just start compulsively, incompetently spouting lies.  It's like there's a specific contractual "MSU" stipulation that requires them to engage in this infantile "Hey, look at me!" fantasism.

And when you figure in that McDonald was ostensibly brought in to clean up the VA instead of falling down the stairs and pooping his pants in his own right....

Well, he's a Democrat, so at least he'll never been hounded out of office altogether.

Kind of like a (hopefully only) two-year pass.  Which I had no idea you could get in the special forces, but there you go.
