Linc Chafee Launches 2016 Defeat

by JASmius

What the hell? <shrug>  One more white guy who is disqualified from Democrat presidential politics by definition.  Maybe he and O'Malley and Sanders can call themselves the "Three Gringos" or something.

I wouldn't have bothered posting about this except for the centerpiece of his hilariously goofy platform:

Former Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee entered the race for president Wednesday by calling for the U.S. to switch to the metric system....

An old Jimmy Carter chestnut.

....take an "open-minded approach" to drug trafficking....

Something he's already doing to have launched this "presidential bid".

....and consider negotiating with Islamic State militants....

What did I tell you?

He did so by casting himself as an anti-war candidate who opposed the invasion of Iraq in 2003, but he quickly detoured into a list of policy proposals that are likely to be non-starters on the campaign trail.

Among them was refusing to rule out talks with Islamic State militants, a violent extremist group that has tortured and beheaded prisoners and opposition fighters as it has overrun parts of Iraq and Syria.

A U.S.-led coalition has launched airstrikes against the extremist group since last August, but Chafee pointed to what he said was the group's protection of antiquities in some of the territory they've taken as a reason to reconsider. [emphases added]

Which gets us back to his "open-minded approach to drug trafficking," if you know what I mean.

"It's early," he said. "We're coming to grips with who these people are and what they want."

Oh, no, it's not, and oh, no, we're not, Linc, or they never would have risen from the grave President Bush43 put them in eight years ago.

Not that every Democrat doesn't believe the same thing; I've written often about Barack Obama's cherished dream of a Mosul summit meeting with Caliph al-Baghdadi.  But even O doesn't publicly admit it; he got enough public blowback last September when he blurted that he didn't have a strategy for resisting ISIS - and, of course, he still doesn't, because he doesn't want to defeat them, but he goes through the motions of pretending to fight them.  To have urged that we try to initiate peace talks with bloodthirsty animals who splatter their decapitation and other torture videos all over the 'Net would have been too much even for a demigod to dare.

And Chafee is openly featuring such bad comedy in his platform.

Makes me root for Democrat presidential debates, just to see if Linc will push his "peace talks with ISIS" brainstorm, and if the Old Puffgut will even bother showing up.
