Attention all thrill seekers that never want to come home again: Mars is going to be colonized by a few people at a time, and the first opportunity just closed out with over 165,000 people applying for the one-way trip to the Red Planet. Training will begin in a couple years, and in a little less than a decade four lucky folks will spend months upon months on their way to Mars where they will live, and die, in front of reality show cameras.
Sound like fun?
I am sure the next opportunity will open up once the networks are able to cover up the horrid deaths of the first pioneers.
For some reason Arnold Schwarzenegger and his female companion rolling on a red hillside, as the glass on their helmets fracture, writhing on the red rocky soil with their heads expanding and their tortured tongues wagging just beyond their blue lips comes to mind.
What fascinated me most about the article regarding this story to Mars is that the one applicant they decided to focus on is a transgender dude-trying-to-be-a-chick. Was this a testament to the fact that something like this journey with no return would attract "people who want to have a life that's very different to the norm," or was this a suggestion that we should start shipping folks off to Mars that try to force their lifestyle onto the rest of society as a civil right that it can be used to silence any voice of opposition?
I suppose the part about populating the colony might become a problem if Mars was colonized by nothing but homosexuals and transgenders.
Imagine if this silly little publicity stunt worked out the way the organizers hoped, and someday (for the fun of it let's imagine the liberal left knows what it is talking about) after the Earth dies from Global Warming and humanity terraforms Mars, and it becomes a planet much like Earth of today, and somewhere in the hubbub all records of history beyond the latest civilizations on Mars are lost (or sealed if they are descendants of Barack Obama): Will scientists suggest under the threat of being mocked that humanity might have possibly begun long ago on Earth?
One wonders.
Of course after reading this article, and taking into consideration the writer thought the best applicant to discuss was this dude:
my first thought was: God help us. God help us all!
