Iron Man is my favorite character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I am a huge fan of Robert Downey, Jr.'s portrayal of Tony Stark, the man inside the crimson & pewter suit. I love the flamboyance, the attitude, the "bragging because I can back it up" swagger, and rapid-fire humor. There's almost a Richard Sherman-esque quality to the man.
But I think this scene from Iron Man II is why I love Tony Stark most of all:
"I've successfully privatized world peace".
That's what the Second Amendment is all about, at its heart. Now, to be sure, the Constitution enumerates national defense as a delegated power to the federal government, but there's a private sector element to it as well, as well as to protect against a federal government that careens into the ditch of tyranny:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
That is the spirit in which ordinary American citizens are showing up at military recruitment centers around the country in the wake of last week's Chattanooga jihadist attack to stand guard over and protect the military personnel inside who are forbidden from defending themselves by deliberate Obamagon policy. A tremendous, courageous, and inspiring display of patriotism and support for our men and women in uniform, yes?
Not according to the Obama Regime:
Despite what the citizens are doing, Obama and the media will not address the real threat. Even in that news story, the Associated Press reporter writes, "There's no evidence that such centers are in danger." Are you kidding??? How many military buildings - whether a recruiting center or base - need to be attacked before there is "evidence?"
And how are these armed citizens being treated? According to a story at Stars and Stripes, the Army "has warned its recruiters to treat the gun-toting civilians gathering at centers across the country in the wake of the Chattanooga, Tennessee, shooting as a security threat." That's right - a threat.
Recruiters were ordered not to interact or acknowledge the armed civilians, who have been greeted by a mix of concern, indifference and gratitude by the public.
"If questioned by these alleged concerned citizens, be polite, professional and terminate the conversation immediately and report the incident to local law enforcement ...," the command advised. [emphases added]
To be sure, they'll hide that slur under the PR cover of, "Another Muhammed Youssef Abdulazeez could infiltrate these 'alleged concerned citizens'" - and they'd have a point. Or at least they would if they weren't also ordering military recruiters and other personnel at offices and bases to cower in the shadows like dhimmi vermin instead of defending themselves like Americans. The latter of which is precisely what "these alleged concerned citizens" are attempting to do on their behalf, and which the Obama Regime considers to be the ONLY "threat".
But then it is only tyrannies that see their own citizens as being a threat to their despotic rule. A profoundly freudian slip, whether or not they realize it.
