Trump Doubles Down On Sturmabteilung Gimmick

by JASmius

Allow me to quote the Proprietor from a little over thirteen hours ago:

I have not necessarily been a Trump cheerleader, and in fact I have indicated that I am not sure I believe that he believes everything he says. . . yet, I have also refused to be a Trump-hater, and I have been giving him a little bit of a benefit of the doubt. On KMET's Constitution Radio, today, I said as I usually do that I understand why folks support Mr. Trump. I understand the anger, and the appreciation that he is outside the establishment. In short, he can't be bought.

Also, as I have said a number of times, "The GOP establishment and Democrats hate Trump because they can't control him. Some conservatives don't like Trump because they think he can't be controlled. Trump's supporters love him because nobody can control him."

As I replied in a comment to that post:

Here's what you still aren't grasping: The GOP "establishment" doesn't like Trump because he's not a conservative. And the Democrats ARE controlling Trump - he is their dream "Republican" candidate - he just doesn't realize it.

Here's more redundant proof of that last part:

So he incites his supporters to beat up protesters, and then offers to shield those who take him up on his glib exhortations from the legal consequences of their criminal actions.

Here's what one of his "shock troops" said after his fisticuffs:

When asked if he liked the rally, [Trump supporter John McGraw] said: “You bet I liked it. Knocking the hell out of that big mouth.”

And when asked why he punched the protester [Thomas Dimassimo], he said: “Number one, we don’t know if he’s ISIS. We don’t know who he is, but we know he’s not acting like an American, cussing me… If he wants it laid out, I laid it out.”

He added: “Yes, he deserved it. The next time we see him, we might have to kill him. We don’t know who he is. He might be with a terrorist organization.”[emphases added]

John McGraw is a moron.  John McGraw is an idiot.  Dimassimo was a BLM sympathizer who charged the stage where Trump was speaking in Dayton, Ohio, was swarmed by Secret Service agents, and thus was already in custody and being dragged out of the venue.  He wasn't physically threatening anybody at that point, least of all McGraw, and yet McGraw lunged at and punched him totally without provocation.  If he'd seen Dimassimo running toward the stage and tackled him before he could get there, that would be one thing, but this was assault, plain and simple.

And then he tries to justify it with this BS that "the guy might have been ISIS, you never know."  Yeah, we do know, shitheels - he wasn't.  God Almighty, if Dimassimo was ISIS, don't you think he'd have opened up with a machine pistol and cut Trump in half, given how close he was to him?  Or blown him up in a suicide attack?  What a lying dumbass.

And now Trump is doubling down on the vigilantism by bailing McGraw out and, presumably, redeploying him to punch out more protesters, lowering his campaign to BLM's gutter level in the process and encouraging escalating, back and forth retaliatory exchanges, which may indeed rise to the level of multiple fatalities, if McGraw's boasting is on the level - and, again, there's no reason to think it isn't, or that McGraw is anything close to an isolated exception.

It evokes the time Barack Obama exhorted a Hispanic audience back in 2010 to "punish our enemies".

How can one read Trump this morning without believing HE thinks people thrilled by an old white guy sucker-punching a black guy are his base?

"Trump's supporters love him because nobody can control him."  If this is who Trump is - and there's no reason to think that isn't the case - then why shouldn't he be reined in?  Is this who we are?  Is this who we want to be?  #BlackLivesMatter are racist communist revolutionaries trying to incite mass insurrection to overthrow what they consider a "white, racist, fascist"....establishment.  Is that not precisely what Trump is trying to give them via a Trumpized GOP?  It's like he's trying to prove every point BLM has ever tried to make.

Sorry, but you can count me out.

As Marco Rubio said yesterday, this is not leadership,  I'd take that farther - contra Mr. McGraw, I don't think it's "American" either - at least to the same extent that Mr. Dimassimo's actions weren't.  It was mutual animalistic thuggery.  And it's headed toward pitched battles in the streets, which can only feed the Left's Narrative of what they've always claimed the Right is, which will de-legitimize us in the eyes of low-information voters and lay waste to decades of progress made towards slowing the leftward rush of policy and culture and reversing it and, yes, "restoring the Republic".

It's almost as if Trump has hypnotized his followers into believing the Left's lies that we are all "violent, racist storm trooper wannabes," and they're enthusiastically embracing the role - and vindicating our foes in the process.

No, Director, Donald Trump does not deserve your benefit of the doubt.  And it's becoming, well, unbecoming of America's Constitution Authority.

Two exit quotes:

Trump’s ISIS claims came the same day that his son erroneously said that a woman seen making a Nazi salute at a Trump rally was a Bernie supporter.

Donald Trump, Jr., tweeted that the woman, later identified as Birgitt Peterson, runs a website supporting Sanders. However, she later told the New York Times she believes the Republican Party needs to be broken up and Trump “is the one to do it.” ....

Trump, Jr., later deleted the tweet. [emphasis added]

....aaaaaaaand....

Just this morning, before giving this answer on Meet the Press, he tweeted, “Bernie Sanders is lying when he says his disruptors aren’t told to go to my events. Be careful Bernie, or my supporters will go to yours!” He’s doubling down either because he thinks condemning violence against the left would hurt his primary turnout, which would be the most cynical thing ever, or because … this really is who he is, and who he plans to be so long as he has a following. Might work out for him on Tuesday, but I’d bet there’ll be a few more #NeverTrumpers in November after this than there otherwise might have been. [emphases added]
