Debbie Lee is a Gold Star Mom. Her son, Marc Alan Lee, was killed in the line of duty as a Navy SEAL on August 2, 2006. He was the first SEAL to lose his life in Iraq. In his final moments he single-handedly held off enemy fighters as his team rescued a wounded soldier from a rooftop. When she received the news of the death of her son, after experiencing a torrent of emotions, Debbie Lee decided to honor him, and his final wish. She has passed on the "kindness, the love, the precious gift of human life to each other so that when your children come in contact with a great conflict that we are now faced with here in Iraq, that they are people of humanity, of pure motives, of compassion."
Marc also wrote in his final letter home: "When was the last time you paid for a random stranger's cup of coffee, meal or maybe even a tank of gas? . . . Think to yourself and wonder what it would feel like when the bill for the meal came and you were told it was already paid for. More random acts of kindness like this would change our country and our reputation as a country."
Debbie Lee has been touring America to honor Marc's final wish, and established America's Mighty Warriors which is dedicated to random acts of kindness for military personnel and their families stateside and overseas.
Recently, Debbie made a second trip to Iraq. She was embedded with an Air Force Wing that was an intricate part of assisting in the rebuilding of the Iraqi Air Force. She was able to interview personnel from both the American and Iraqi Air Force, and even secured an exclusive interview with General Anwar, the man in charge of the Iraqi Air Force - an opportunity denied to media outlets like CNN.
In Marc's last letter home he had written, "It will take longer than most think but we will get Iraq to stand on its own feet." In her trip to Iraq, Debbie Lee was able to see this first hand what Marc said would happen. And, of course, while in Iraq Debbie also spent the time thanking the troops, and bringing them love from back home.
Debbie's first trip to Iraq was in December of 2007, where she made history being the first Gold Star Mother to go into the combat zone where her son gave his life.
Debbie Lee, because of her devotion to her son and to the troops, has received her share of attacks from the liberal left. The attacks from most, however, have not been as vile as the confrontations she has experienced from the radical anti-military group, Code Pink. And the person that has been most confrontational with Debbie, is the co-founder of Code Pink, Jodie Evans.
Code Pink has done everything they can to counter the war effort, including attacking our military recruiting offices while causing thousands of dollars in damage and threatening the recruiters. The organization has also sent over $600,000.00 to the terrorists in Fallujah.
In confrontations with Debbie Lee, Jodie Evans and her Code Pink degenerates have taunted Debbie, making light of her son’s sacrifice, saying things like, “Your son deserved to die in Iraq if he was stupid enough to go over there.”
Tonight, Debbie Lee Joins the Political Pistachio Radio Revolution to discuss these events in her life, as well as touch on her feelings about the current political situation, and where we go from here. Join us live at 7:00 pm Pacific for the conversation at BlogTalkRadio.com/PoliticalPistachio.
As we approach Memorial Day, our hearts go out to our fallen military warriors, their families, and their friends. Our prayers especially go out to the wives and mothers of our lost heroes, for they have lost so much. In the case of Debbie Lee, however, she has taken that loss to fuel what she has to give back, and her work of generosity is driven by the final wishes of her son, Marc Lee, the first Navy Seal to lose his life in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
"Pass on the kindness, the love, the precious gift of human life to each other so that when your children come in contact with a great conflict that we are now faced with here in Iraq, that they are people of humanity, of pure motives, of compassion." Marc Alan Lee in his last letter to his mother, Debbie Lee.
Marc Alan Lee was the first Navy Seal killed in the war in Iraq. He lost his life in Operation Iraqi Freedom on August 2, 2006. The moments before his death he single-handedly held off enemy fighters as his team rescued a wounded soldier from a rooftop. Debie Lee, his mother, has experienced a torrent of emotions since the day she lost her son. In Marc's final letter to home he wrote of his wish for Americans to support each other with random acts of kindness. With this idea in mind, Debbie began to implement Marc's dream.
In his final letter home, Marc wrote: "When was the last time you paid for a random stranger's cup of coffee, meal or maybe even a tank of gas? . . . Think to yourself and wonder what it would feel like when the bill for the meal came and you were told it was already paid for. More random acts of kindness like this would change our country and our reputation as a country."
Since Marc's death, Debbie Lee has been touring America to honor her son's final wish. She recently established America's Mighty Warriors dedicated to random acts of kindness for military personnel and their families stateside and overseas.
Her first random act of kindness raised money that she included in a condolence card to the family of another fallen soldier. She then took a wife (who was battling breast cancer), daughter, and granddaughter of a deployed soldier to Easter dinner. Debbie Lee heard of a Marine unit in San Diego scheduled to deploy without essential EOD power lock tools, and thanks to America's Mighty Warriors the unit will be traveling with the tools.
On Mother's Day, Debbie took other Gold Star Moms to lunch, followed by a limo ride to a mall where she organized an event based on the hit show "Amazing Race." Clues led moms to retail stores who donated gifts to pamper these women who have lost so much. Plans for a similar Father's Day event is in the works.
Debbie Lee met with President Bush, and appeared onstage at the 2007 Country Music Awards, where Tim McGraw performed his new song "If You're Reading This" which honors those in the U.S. military who gave their lives in service to this nation. she has also traveled to Iraq and Guantanamo Bay to personally thank troops serving overseas.

I hate war, but I recognize the necessity of a nation to defend itself, its interests, and its allies. The world is filled with bad people, and violent ideologies. To survive, one must be able to defeat the enemy soundly. Peace is a wonderful goal, but peace cannot be achieved from a viewpoint of weakness, or an unwillingness to engage in war with a single focus on victory.
Peace through strength.
Then there are those vile and wicked people out there who are so stupid that they can't understand reality. There is no amount of negotiations that can stop certain ideologies, nations, or madmen from continuing their destructive activities and behaviors. The enemy is not concerned with your desire for peace, more often than not, and the actions of the enemy usually has nothing to do with anything other than their own militaristic goals.
In other words, believing that Islamic terrorists hit us on 9/11, or any other time, is because we are present in locations around the world, because we have defeated them on the battlefield, or because we are allies with Israel is a fantasy. They hit us because they hate us, and they hate us because we do not accept Islam, nor are we willing to live under Shariah law. It is as simple as that.
In response to two hundred years of Islamic attacks against the United States (don't forget the two Barbary Wars 1801-1805, 1815), finally culminating in the destruction of the World Trade Center on 9/11, the United States has decided to engage this enemy to stop the Islamic Jihad from doing any more damage. The radical ideology of Islam backed off a little during our early military operations into Iraq and Afghanistan, but as the enemy has rapidly realized the weaknesses of the current administration, and have assumed that their recent gains are because it is the "Will of Allah," the number of terrorist attacks worldwide have begun to increase again.
The attacks against the United States are not only violent terrorist attacks, but internal attacks to gain footing. The New York mosque is a great example.
The only reason that the Jihad has not launched an all-out assault is because the citizens of the United States are armed, and because our very capable military has taken the war to the Jihad, and has done a wonderful job in defending this nation by fighting the battle in the lion's den.
For their sacrifice, their honorable service, and their focus on defending this nation, our military service members deserve the utmost respect and appreciation.
Enter, Stage Left, the hard left, radical, peace-niks of groups like the vile and disgusting Code Pink. . .
Debbie Lee was notified that her son, Marc Alan Lee, was killed in action August 2nd, 2006. He was the first SEAL to die in the war against the Islamic Jihad, and since that day Debbie Lee has dedicated her life to honoring and supporting our troops, their families and especially the families of the fallen.
"I have always been a patriot and understood that our men and women serving have paid for my freedoms but since the day Marc willingly sacrificed his life, I understand in a much deeper way the cost and sacrifice that our brave warriors and their families make. 'Freedom isn’t free' is a reality not just a patriotic slogan."
Along her journey, Debbie Lee has encountered the hateful, despicable people of anti-war groups, such as Code Pink. One of those people she has had the unfortunate opportunity to encounter is Jodie Evans, co-founder of Code Pink.
Code Pink has done everything they can to counter the war effort, including attacking our military recruiting offices while causing thousands of dollars in damage and threatening the recruiters. The organization has also sent over $600,000.00 to the terrorists in Fallujah.
In confrontations, Jodie Evans and her Code Pink degenerates have taunted Debbie Lee, making light of her son’s sacrifice, saying things like, “Your son deserved to die in Iraq if he was stupid enough to go over there.”
The vile nature of these uncaring, despicable, wicked people disgusts me.
Jodie Evans and her Code Pink cronies are now doing what they can to support ultra-liberal Jerry Brown for Governor of California.
Of this effort by Code Pink, Debbie Lee has said, "My son Marc is buried in Fort Rosecrans in San Diego along with a multitude of Vets who honorably served and gave their last breathe defending the shores of America. Their headstones are a testament to the sacrifices they have made as they gave the greatest gift they could, their life, so others could live and live free. Jerry Brown is dishonoring and disrespecting each of our fallen heroes by accepting money from a terrorist supporting lunatic! Jodie Evans has deeply insulted and offended me and so many other Gold Star families too many times."
Protesters, at a fundraising event yesterday, decided to give Code Pink, and their liberal left crazies, a taste of their own medicine. Protesters blocked entrances, laid on the sidewalk, and shouted phrases like, "Code Pink supports terrorists!"
The website, Big Peace, reports that Jodie Evans became visibly agitated when confronted by Melanie Morgan about Code Pink’s $600,000 donation to the families of terrorists who murdered U.S. troops in Fallujah. Evans snapped “you are on crack!” as Morgan persisted.
Morgan added, “these liberals were shocked that we turned up. They were extremely angry about our obnoxious support of U.S. troops… and completely oblivious to the irony. The most fun was watching Jodie Evans’ skin mottle in anger, matching her dyed red hair!”
Andrew Marcus of Big Government and Founding Bloggers videotaped the protest and remarked on the irony that one of the Code Pink greeters complained about being protested, a tactic commonly associated with Code Pink.
The hard left maniacs can dish it out, but apparently they can't take it.
Debbie Lee, a two-time guest on Political Pistachio Radio, and the mother of Marc Lee, the first Navy SEAL to be lost in Iraq, sent this out to her Email list recently, and I thought you all would appreciate me sharing it with you:
Dear Doug,
Aug 2nd 2009 finds me in Connecticut, preparing to board a flight back home. I spent the weekend celebrating with one of my "adopted sons" and the love of his life as they were married yesterday. What a joyous occasion to share in their commitment to spend the rest of their lives loving supporting and giving of themselves for each other.
This morning found everyone saying their goodbyes and departing for home and wishing the bride and groom farewell for their honeymoon. I headed back to my room and began packing my things and reflecting on how this day Aug 2nd will forever be "Memorial Day" in my life.
Three years ago today I received news that would forever change my life. I heard the words that no Mother ever wants to hear. "We're sorry to inform you that your son Marc Alan Lee has been killed in action." I still remember it as though it were yesterday and yet it has been three years.
My mind flashes back through the years I was blessed to have Marc in my life. I remember the news that I was pregnant as a single Mother having just divorced their Father. Kris was 3 and Cheryl was 18 months and now there would be three little mouths to feed. How would I ever survive?
I remember even as a toddler Marc's smile, his zest for life and the crazy noises he was always making. I remember his first trip to the hospital at 3, to get stitches after falling off my Aunt Betty's swing set. I remember his brakes failing as a 6 year old and him speeding down the hill near our home crashing into the cement wall knocking him unconscious and in the hospital for 3 days. I remember home schooling him and constantly reminding him focus, focus, focus Marc. I remember him deciding to be a professional soccer player as a freshman when he had never played a day of soccer. I remember him taking our video camera after flooding in Hood River and him pretending to be the local reporter. I remember him receiving the most improved player on his soccer team. I remember the night before try-outs for the Colorado Avalanche Pro Soccer team and him blowing his knee out, sending him back home to recuperate. I remember him jumping the fence at the Hotel Del in Coronado during BUDs training to sneak into the hot tub to soothe his exhausted body. I remember his constant request for "tingles" (a cross between a back rub, scratches and tickles) on his back. I remember that big grin on his face as he succeeded at his third attempt at BUDs graduating to become a Navy SEAL and proudly wear his Trident. I remember his big bear hugs. I remember his humor, determination and love for life. So many memories!
Many of you know of the sacrifice that this young man made three years ago today Aug 2, 2006. Marc made the choice to stand out in the direct line of fire three times that day to defend his buddies. He sacrificed everything, fighting for our freedoms. We have been given the precious gift of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness through the blood and sacrifice of so many of America's Mighty Warriors. They simply handed it to you. Most of you didn't fight for it, you didn't sacrifice anything, you didn't pay for it. What has it cost you? Many Americans take our freedoms for granted and don't value the gift they have been given. I want to scream HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN the sacrifices of so many brave warriors???? I know the cost! Our family, like so many others have dearly paid the price for you. These were courageous heroes who fought and paid in full, with their blood so you could live a life filled with daily freedoms.
Our country is at risk today of losing those freedoms. We have those in leadership positions in our government who want to change the direction this country is headed. They are trying to take those freedoms away from us and commit political suicide. Don't waste the blood that was shed to give those freedoms to us. Stand up for America! Be courageous and let those in Congress and the White House know we won't stand for it. Be informed, re-read the Declaration of Independence, know what Bills are being voted on and what's in them. Call your Senators and Representatives and hold them accountable, visit their offices, let them know we will not spend our tax dollars to fund things that are immoral and against the God given rights and Biblical principles. Pray for our nation. Attend Tea-parties and rallies, write letters to the editors.
It takes courage to take a stand and make a difference. I know that God gave Marc the courage to stand and draw fire on himself to save his buddies. I know that God gave Marc the name which means Mighty Warrior. Please today join with me as I remember my sons life and the sacrifice that he made for you and me. If your heart leads, please join with me and make a donation to www.americasmightywarriors.org in Marc's memory to provide the financial support so that I can continue to fight for our troops, their families and families of the fallen. They have sacrificed so much and they deserve our love, support and gratitude.
May God bless you, our troops and protect this nation!

In the aftermath of the eight hour Troopathon at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California, it turns out that the final funds raised for Care Packages for the troops was only about 50% of last year's efforts. This unfortunate result came after Move America Forward had secured a better location, had a much better set, and a heck of a lot more celebrities of high caliber to appear on the webcast. Unfortunately, instead of covering the event, the media was head-long into their ongoing coverage of the death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
It is a pretty serious indictment to say that America chose Michael Jackson over our troops, but one wonders if it had not been for the death of Michael Jackson, and Farrah Fawcett, which dominated the "breaking news" section of the media, whether or not the amount of money contributed to support the troops would have been higher.
How is it that a strange individual, who no doubt had a lot of talent as a performer, could garner more attention in his death than those alive and fighting, and are willing to die for our freedoms on the battlefield?
I am indeed saddened that an individual, namely Michael Jackson, died. Any death is a sad event. But I don't believe his death deserves a week-long marathon of coverage by the media, and I don't think he deserves more appreciation than our troops who have pledged to protect this nation, and are willing to die for liberty, and remember, they made this pledge voluntarily, out of love for liberty, and this nation.
Debbie Lee is our guest tonight on Political Pistachio Radio to talk about the Troopathon, and her feelings about America's obsession with a dead entertainer that was an accused pedophile, and drug user, and a person that lived in a Neverland of unending insanity.

Chaplain Klingenschmitt was honorably, but involuntarily, discharged from the Navy in 2007 after facing court-martial for praying 'in Jesus name' in uniform. Chaplain Gordon J. Klingenschmitt appeared at a White House function in March, 2006, at which he wore his uniform and prayed "in Jesus name." For this action he was convicted at a specal court-martial of violating a lawful order from his commanding officer not to do that. If a Christian Chaplain, which is a military pastor and spiritual counselor, cannot pray in Jesus' name, then whose name are they to pray in?
The United States Congress got involved and ordered the Navy to rescind the particular policy not allowing Navy Chaplain's to pray in Jesus' name, and now allows chaplains to pray as their "concience dictates."
Nonetheless, the United States Navy proceeded to discharge Klingenschmitt on January 31, 2007. Klingenschmitt was later quoted as saying, "My separation is in direct retaliation for my victory on Capitol Hill. This is how the Navy treats whistleblowers."
The case against Chaplain Klingenschmitt began when a complaint was received by a Navy Captain regarding the content of the Chaplain's religious speech at an optionally attended sermon in a chapel. A Navy investigation later revealed that Klingenschmitt had prayed "in Jesus' name" and had even prayed in public while in uniform. For that, a court-martial was held.
Tonight's guest on Political Pistachio Radio is Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt. In addition to his story, he would like to discuss how the Pentagon has burned the Bibles sent to our troops overseas. You may catch tonight's explosive program live, or on archive later, HERE.

As I crawl back into bed this morning, hot coffee next to me on my night stand, bible on my lap, I begin to reflect back 32 years ago.
As a recently divorced young, Mom with a 3 1/2 year old son and a 2 year old daughter expecting my 3rd child any day, I headed off to work at 4:00 am as I did everyday. About 10:00 in the morning I started getting some pretty intense cramps. I dismissed them to just more false labor pains, as with my other 2 children labor pains started very intense and just moments apart. Not a by the book 15-20 minutes apart, cramping feeling with increasing intensity. I continued to work as this was my only means of support for my children. I casually kept an eye on the clock as every 15 minutes or so I would have another round of the strong cramps. My friends nearby were encouraging me to go to the hospital as they thought I was in labor. I kept reassuring them that this wasn't how my labor proceeded. I finished my shift at noon, stopped and picked up my two little darlings and headed home. Now I'm beginning to think that possibly I am in the beginning stages of labor. My first labor was 5 hours and my second was 3 hours and typically each delivery is shorter. I had an hour drive to the hospital so I wasn't even sure that I would make it to the hospital with this one?
I lived in a very rural part of Oregon. I've never been one to panic or cry wolf, so I would just wait until I was sure I was in labor. As a single Mom this delivery would be very different from the previous two. I would be alone, no one there to hold my hand or coach me in this natural delivery, no one to share in the gift of this precious life. Their father was an alcoholic and very abusive and had tried to kill me and when I realized that his abuse probably would pass on to my children, I fled and filed for divorce. Two weeks later I found out I was pregnant and the Dr thought he heard two heart beats. Yes I was going to have twins and double the size of my family. How would I ever survive??
Two weeks before the delivery they did an ultrasound to make sure both babies heads were down and found there was only one child. I had mentally prepared myself for twins and now there was just one. I was sure I was having twin girls and had girl names picked out but not a single boys name.
By now the pains have increased and are getting closer together. I decide to call my girlfriend who was going to take the children while I had the baby. I pick up the phone to dial and the phone is dead, no dial tone. Not to worry I will just use one of my neighbors phones. I run (okay so at 9 months pregnant I didn't run, I waddled) next door but nobody is home. Then I head to the next house, no one there either. Okay, no worry, I still have 2 more across the street, no one there at either one of those homes?? Okay no phone to call for help, no neighbors in this rural community here, HHhhmmmh, Plan C. I'll just grab my keys, put the kids in my car and drive to the hospital. As a single Mom you have to be creative.
Okay where are my keys??? I know I left them on the table. I scan the entire house looking for them but nowhere to be found? I ask my 3 year old and he replied "Cheryl had them." Great my 2 year old has the keys hard telling where they are? I begin calling "Cheryl, Cheryl." Where is she? In the midst of all the craziness she had snuck out the front door and was playing in the front yard. We had just moved into this new home and it hadn't been landscaped yet so it was just mounds of dirt and there is my darling little daughter who taken off all of her clothes but her shoes and was playing in the dirt. I shake my head and wonder to myself what else could possibly happen today.
I call my 3 year old son Kris to come help Mommy find the keys in all of this dirt. Okay, okay so now I'm starting to panic a little. This isn't funny. No keys, no phone, no neighbors. The pains are getting much closer and I know my little of bundle of joy will be hear soon.
Time for Plan D, I know I can't walk very far in labor with a 2yr old and 3 year old. Let's see the Indians used smoke signals, is that one puff or two for help??? I realize that the only option left is probably that I am going to have to deliver my new little one at home with the help of my 3 year old.
Oh my, let's see they always boil water on TV when a delivery is about to take place, and towels, will need towels. I'm busy gathering what I think we will need when the phone rings. It's my girlfriend Sandy who informed me that I had been heavy in her thoughts. I tell her to come get me NOW. On the way to the hospital I retell the events of the morning and what a blessing it was that she had called. I later learned that because of all of the construction in the area someone had cut part of the cable and no one could call out but calls in were still getting through. I did make it to the hospital and was blessed with a beautiful tons of dark hair, brown eyed, little boy. "BOY" ??? I was sure it was girl. Now I needed a name for a boy. I've just gone through a traumatic day and the process of having a natural child birth with no drugs, all alone and I need a little time to rest, hold my precious gift and enjoy the blessing. The name can wait until later. No matter what I call him that won't change the gift that I had been given on March 20, 1978. I had planned on a 3 day stay at the hospital. After all I did have insurance that would cover the birth. My previous deliveries, one of the first questions they asked when they were considering discharge was "Do you have other young children at home?" I was a single Mom with a 3yr old and 2 yr old. The next questions was do you have help. I had no help, when I got home it was me and the kids. Check, check, and check! That should do it and by me some time. I also had surgery after Marc was born, so I was looking forward to being taken care of several days in the hospital before I went home to my new life as the single Mother of 3 children, 3 and under. The next morning the nurse came in and informed me I needed to pick a name for baby boy as I was being discharged today as they needed my hospital bed. WHAT???? Okay how do a come up with a name for my precious boy, just like that?
My menu for the day was lying on my tray table and there were other papers near it, with one overlapping on the date of the Menu, March 21st. The paper covered up the h and 21st. What stood out at me was Marc. Marc I like that I thought. That's it his name will be Marc. Marc used to say "Great Mom you got my name off of a menu?" It wasn't until years later when I learned that Marc means Mighty Warrior. God had sent a post it note to me that day to give me the name for this young man who would grow up to be a hero that would change the world and sacrifice his life so that other's could live. Mighty Warrior he was!
This morning as I sat in my bed sipping my coffee, remembering Marc on his birthday, tears flow down my cheeks, knowing how much I miss him. Oh how I wish he were hear today celebrating his special day with family and friends.
As Parents we assume that we will have our children for the rest of our lives. That we will watch them marry, have children, impact the world with their careers, celebrate holidays and take care of us when we get old. That was always going to be my payback for my children One day they would have to feed me, wipe the droll from my mouth and change my diapers.
That wasn't God's plan for Marc, or for me. I would have him for 28 years in my life and then would share him with the rest of the world. We need to cherish each and everyday we have with them.
So many people have so many memories of Marc, how he impacted their life and changed their world. I love hearing those stories. Marc not only changed this world by how he lived everyday but how he left this world. He willingly gave all of his tomorrows, his future, so that his buddies could have their today and their tomorrows. He did that so YOU could have your today and your tomorrow. He left a legacy in his sacrifice and his last letter home, his "Glory letter" that continues to change peoples lives today.
John 15:13 says "Greater love has no man than this that he lay down his life for his friends." that's what Marc did. He set an amazing example of love and then in his "glory letter" challenges us to pass on that love. In that letter he says" I'm not saying look at me" because he admits his failure before he deployed. Yet as we look back at Marc's final actions that day he did pass on "the love, the kindness, the precious gift of human life."
Marc had an example to follow too, his Father, not his earthly Father who wasn't part of Marc's life, but His Heavenly Father. That's who that verse John 15:13 was originally written about. Christ showed amazing love for each one of us and gave his life so that we could live for an eternity. He calls us friends. Wow! Now that's even greater love. Marc's friends tell stories over and over how Marc deeply impacted their lives. You see a friend knows and remembers these things. Can you do the same for Christ? Is he your friend? Can you tell other's what he has done for you?
I have struggled through numerous tragedies and grief in my life and I have often shared about the strength Christ gives me and that He is my friend. He is the reason that I can get through the deepest pain a parent can go through and survive. He is the reason I have hope. Today as I remember Marc and celebrate his birthday without the honored guest I cling to that hope. I know Marc would want you to cling to that hope also. One day when my time on earth is done and Christ calls me home I know that Marc will be there to escort me into the presence of my King, my Lord, my Savior. I hope you have your reservation in and I will see you there. In Marc's honor today and to celebrate his birth please read his "Glory Letter" and pass on "the love, the kindness, the precious gift of human life" by doing a random act of kindness. Remembering my Mighty Warrior!

My grandmother died on February third. She lived in Kingman, Arizona, which is about an hour drive, or so, south of Searchlight, Nevada. When I began to plan the trip to the Searchlight Tea Party Express event, I wasn't sure how I wanted to get out there. With a 27% unemployment rate in the construction industry, and the commercial side of real estate and construction beginning to head for a face-plant, the work I engage in is beginning to make it harder and harder to stay above water, so I was hoping to split the cost of the trip with someone. After exhausting all possibilities my mother contacted me and asked if I was going to the Showdown in Searchlight. I told her the story, and she told me she desired to go as well, plus was needing to go to Kingman to wrap up taking care of grandma's things. So, we got on the road about four in the morning in her car, and made our way to Searchlight, Nevada.
As we approached Searchlight, Nevada along the lonely two-lane highway, realization revealed that the town is a blink town - if you blink, you will miss it. With a population of 700 in the middle of the Nevada desert Searchlight is a testament to the rugged individuality and self-reliance that is the American People. Despite the rough environment of the area that demands the residents to be personally responsible just to survive, Searchlight is also the hometown of the bleeding heart (thinks he's being compassionate by stealing from one group and creating a culture of dependency in another) Senator Harry Reid.
It occurred to me at one point that all of the people at the Tea Party Express III event was probably the most people that has been in Searchlight at one time, ever.
The Tea Party Express's Showdown in Searchlight was ten miles past the small speck of Searchlight's group of businesses. On the left we saw the area come into view. The place was already hopping with thousands of people, and we were four hours early. At the entrance some Ron Paul nut-cakes had put up a sign that read "Love, Not War," and Mom asked me, "Are you sure this is the place?"
I explained to her about the Ron Paul rEVOLution folks, and then we entered the dusty bowl that was suffering from heavy winds, and lots of flying dust. After locating were Ken Pettigrew had set up shop at media row, I sat down and took a moment to rest.
Before the Tea Party Express buses arrived the stage livened up with local candidates explaining why they belonged in office.
Some of the quotes of these candidates:
"Don't let them kill your American Dream."
"The Free Market is the solution."
"Welcome to Harry Reid's retirement party."
"One third of Republicans sat home in 2008. We will not be home in November."
"You cannot court martial Haditha Marines and our Navy SEALS for doing their job. The founders would not have told the underwear bomber terrorist he had the right to remain silent."
At one point faces began to look to the sky, and when I looked up I saw five planes that had appeared overhead. And then the sky writing began.
Cheers erupted as the sky writers wrote in the sky high above the event: "Tea Party Express," "We The People," "Vote Reid Out," "No New Taxes," and "God Bless America."
Melanie Morgan and Kevin Williams were the first to take the stage from the Tea Party Express III buses after they arrived, addressing the crowd about the ridiculous accusations by the Left that the Tea Party Movement has been inciting violence, explaining that "Thuggery is a Left Wing Tactic."
Shortly after, Sarah Palin took the stage, and gave an awe inspiring speech that essentially articulated conservatism, admonished the thuggish tactics by the Left, proclaimed she was proud to be with proud Americans, and she was optimistic about our future as a nation.
Joe the Plumber, on stage, reminded us to "Hold these people accountable." He explained how the Tea Party Movement is not a Republican Movement, it's an American movement. He also stated that he found it absolutely ludicrous that his popularity arose because he asked a question. We should all be asking questions, he said. Then he discussed his military days, saying he "joined the military because I love my country."
Our country, if it is to prosper, he went on to say, must follow three basic ideas:
- Less federal government in our lives
- Less Taxes
- Stronger state's rights.
He continued saying that he feels political correctness is political castration. It makes you afraid to challenge, afraid to ask questions. Our freedom demands of us to ask questions, and our liberty comes with the responsibility of being engaged. The Constitution ain't broke, so the Left needs to stop trying to change it. "Actions, not words - be involved."
Chuck Devore, the man planning to unseat Boxer in California, said when he got on stage, "If we are going to take back our nation we must work for it - do your research, put the right people in office."
As we were listening to the other speakers, a friend of my grandmother's who had been planning to come to the event called my mom saying that the traffic was backed up for miles and he could not get to the event.
Cable news networks were estimating the number of people from being in the hundreds to over ten thousand. Some conservative talkers today said "tens of thousands." Looking around I believe the amount of people there was enough to fill Angels Stadium in Anaheim, which holds well over 40,000. Later, I heard some of the local people say they were hearing estimates of about 40,000. Regardless of the number, it was a lot of people.
As Victoria Jackson (of Saturday Night Live fame) was speaking, it became clear to me that though I had spoken to my good friend Andrea Shea King on the phone earlier, and we had planned to meet up at the event, unless I took steps to make it happen, it wouldn't. So, followed by my Mom, I began to make my way towards the area where the buses were parked behind the stage. When I arrived, Andrea's producer called me and asked if we had had the opportunity to connect, and I told him we were having trouble calling each other because the cell phone signal was so bad. He promised to try to call her as I began to work closer to the bus.
Earlier, when Lloyd Marcus had taken the stage to sing, I told my mom that I had spoken with Lloyd before, and that he knew Andrea well. Armed with that knowledge, Mom saw Lloyd, approached him, grabbed his arm, and said, "Andrea Shea King wants to see my son, can you get her?"
Lloyd, at first, had this look on his face that seemed to say, "Who's this woman, and why is she grabbing my arm?" But he wound up going into the bus and letting Andrea know we were outside waiting for her. While Lloyd was gone, just to make sure there were plenty of folks looking for Andrea, Mom called to Andrew Breitbart as well, saying, "Andrew, Andrea Shea King wants to meet my son, Doug, can you get her?"
Little did we know, there was another Doug, and he was a part of the Tea Party Express III. This confused Andrew Breitbart, especially when I said to him something about Political Pistachio as well. About the time the foggy cloud grabbed a hold of him, and he began to try to figure out what the heck was going on, Andrea came out, gave me a hug, and we began to talk.
While talking to Andrea, I also got the opportunity to spend some time discussing conservatism with Lloyd Marcus.
As I was spending time with Andrea and Lloyd, Mom decided she wanted a picture with Andrew Breitbart, so she called out to him again. This time he came over, posed for the photograph with us (at first Mom tried to give the camera to Lloyd Marcus to take the picture, but he said he wasn't sure about the camera, so Andrea Shea King took the picture), and then we began talking with Andrew about politics, Hollywood, and the Tea Party Express III.
During the conversation with Breitbart, Andrea suggested to him that he come on my Political Pistachio Radio Revolution program. He agreed to, and I told him I'd hold him to it, and sick Andrea on him if he didn't. We all laughed, and talked a little more. I am figuring some time after the Tea Party Express III finishes its trip to Washington DC (April 15), I will have Breitbart on my program.
After we completed the conversation, and Andrew Breitbart began to head back to the bus, my mom called out to him one more time. Joe the Plumber was a few feet away, and Mom called out to Breitbart to send Joe over to our little group for pictures and conversation. Joe the Plumber, being the nice guy that he is, obliged.
Joe was one of the best speakers of the event, and when he spoke with us after the picture was taken, it became apparent that he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. After the conversation was over, I spotted Hannah Giles of "bring down ACORN posing as a prostitute" fame, and she's even cuter in person.
I said my farewell to Andrea, we hugged, and Mom and I returned to our spot at Media Row.
I then realized that I missed out on meeting with Debbie Lee, another person I had Emailed, and she had responded saying she was looking forward to meeting me. After I got home I sent her an Email apologizing, and we determined we will get the opportunity sometime in the future.
Andrea took the stage shortly after, whipping the crowd up into cheers as she called them "beautiful Americans" and snapped a couple of pictures of the crowd from the stage. The consummate professional, Andrea also gave a phenomenal speech.
Shortly after Andrea's speech, we departed the event, drove to Kingman, Arizona, and I broadcasted my radio show live from the hotel room. Later, checking the numbers, the live radio report about the Showdown in Searchlight is one of my more listened to shows.
Figures. America loves the Tea Party, and is beginning to understand that what is happening in Washington is wrong, and against the U.S. Constitution.
We returned home on Sunday, tired, but grinning. The pictures came out great, but the memories will last a lifetime.
